Public Transport | Free until May 2026
Public transport is free in Victoria across trams, trains and buses until 31st May 2026.
Public transport fares across both metro and regional networks will then be half price from 1 June 2026 until the end of the year.
Since the initiative was introduced, there have been reports of services running at capacity, stretched to the limit with full trams, trains and buses, people sitting on floors on V-Line. Instead of increasing services and carriages there has been cancelled services.
Taxpayer Funded Initiative
A taxpayer initiative (not Government) to provide cost-of-living relief will cost taxpayers about $432 million as fuel costs drive up prices on everyday goods.
Australian Labor Party (ALP)
Labor buckled under pressure from the opposition (Liberal Party) calling for the intiative to be extended. Jacinta Allen and Labor heads to the polls in November, down in polls, mired in debt, controversary and claims of rorting lost 3 of its experienced ministers in the past week.
Let me make it clear (well worn Jacinta Allen line..)
Jacinta Allen will do anything and everything to stay in power.. even Labor stalwarts are leaving the Labor sinking ship.
