MELBOURNE OPERA prides itself on its commitment to producing high quality performances for the benefit of audiences and performers.
With an ensemble of dedicated performers and administrators, our aim is to provide opera of the highest standard to audiences of all ages and backgrounds at affordable prices.
Melbourne Opera was started in 2002 to cover the void when Victoria State Opera was dismantled. Since then the company has most successfully mounted productions of La Traviata, Rigoletto, The Magic Flute, Die Fledermaus, Don Giovanni, Madame Butterfly, The Telltale Heart, The Barber of Seville, Carmen, Suor Angelica, Cavalleria Rusticana, The Italian Girl in Algiers and La Boheme, to great acclaim.
The full company also undertakes regional touring in Victoria, and interstate tours to Tasmania and the ACT. The company is also often approached to provide singers and/or orchestra to perform at corporate and other events, such as the Cox Plate Gala Ball, and recently provided the orchestra for Silverchair's 'If you keep losing sleep' video.
