The reopening of the Ian Potter State Theatre
Arts Centre Melbourne
Fri 16 October 2026, 7:30pm
This celebration brings together music of extraordinary scale and dramatic power, composed by Richard Wagner. This music was made for vast orchestral forces and voices that can fill a theatre.
Conductor Michael Güttler has led acclaimed performances at the world's great opera houses and is one of the world's leading Wagner specialists.
He'll lead the brilliant Orchestra Victoria and a starry line-up of singers, including dramatic soprano Catherine Foster, who performed Brünnhilde in the Ring Cycle at Bayreuth Festival for Wagner's bicentenary.
Tenor Sergei Skorokhodov is another favourite of opera audiences across the world, recently winning rave reviews as Erik in the Met Opera's The Flying Dutchman.
Joining them will be one of Australia's most versatile and in-demand baritones, James Clayton, making a welcome return to Opera Australia.
