Joanna Ransome: Hope

Joanna Ransome has worked as a visual artist for 40 years.

Throughout childhood and beyond she has always created art. Her work embodies an emotive as well as psychological response to her environment both natural and urban.

There is the element of social comment too that pervades her work. Her work moves between abstraction and semi-figuration.

Working in Italy with a master printmaker she found a new love of printmaking as well as drawing. Her consciousness of the Ukraine/Russian war and wars generally became a preoccupation and infiltrated her work. A hope for peace and retaining a precious hold on our natural environment are strong concerns.

With a passion for colour, her works are sensitive in their love of colour, line, design and aesthetics.

She enjoys working with different materials and techniques including her engraved works on wood, which she calls Mindscapes.

Some symbolism is still retained including the scapegoat image from earlier shows in the 80’s at Roar Studios.

Joanna has had solo exhibitions overseas as well as Australia. She holds a BA Fine Art, Monash University and postgrad studies from Chelsea School of Art, London.

Joanna has won awards and been a finalist in many. She previously lived in Eltham and has work in the Montsalvat collection. Joanna is featured in The New McCulloch’s Encyclopedia of Australian Art, The Encyclopaedia of Australian Women Artists, and Max Germaine’s Dictionary of Women Artists of Australia. She is also represented in the Artbank and Deakin University collections.
