With the winter school holidays right around the corner, here are five free and fully undercover activities to turn the chill into thrill these holidays with The District Arena tour.

1.) Table Tennis: One of the most-played games on the planet, and notoriously equalising. Whether you're eight or eighty, step up to the table and it's anyone's match. Three undercover tables, bats and balls already waiting, open from morning to evening. No booking, no BYO, just grab a paddle and settle the family rankings.

2.) Street Hockey: Round up your mates and pick your teams for this court-built street hockey zone at The District Docklands. The enclosed, foam court is shoes only, giving everyone a skate-free playing field to test their skills.

3.) Giant Chess and Connect : Dust off your strategy skills and challenge someone to life-size game of chess or connect 4 where every move is blown to size. Draw a small crowd with your winning move or watch the competitive play yourself in between shopping and food stops.

4.) Giant Inflatable Soccer-billiards: Yes really. Picture a billiards table the size of an inflatable pool, played by kicking soccer balls into the pockets. It's part footy, part trick-shot showdown, completely free to have a crack at, and almost impossible to walk past without joining in.

5.) The Urban Art Experience: A free self-guided walkable trail of bold murals and immersive sculptures threaded through the covered laneways, with available online narration that fills in the stories as you go. Self-paced, ticket-free, and an easy way to slow the day down between the busier moments.
